Have you seen What About Bob, a hilarious (and slightly disturbing) 1991 comedy starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss? In the movie, Richard Dreyfuss plays a psychiatrist who has just written a book, "Baby Steps." I won't give too much away about the movie so as not to spoil it if you haven't seen it, but I think "Dr. Leo Marvin" was on to something with the concept of baby steps.
When trying to make changes to your lifestyle, emotional patterns, parenting, or relationships, it can be overwhelming to try to change old patterns all at once. It could leave you discouraged or overwhelmed, tempting you to just give up. Instead, start with one behavior or goal that will be easily attainable, giving you the confidence and motivation to continue. Baby steps - having small, easily attainable goals that will ultimately bring you to the place you want to be - a healthier you!
