Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make an appointment?
You can fill out the form on the Contact Me Page, email me at Dwalkermmft@yahoo.com, or call me directly at 615-828-6973 to schedule an appointment or to ask questions.
Where are you located?
My office is at 100 Hazel Path Suite B in Hendersonville, TN.
How much does counseling cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes at a rate of $70. Initial intake sessions are 1½ hours at a rate of $100. Checks and cash are accepted. There are also a limited number of sliding scale slots for clients who are undergoing financial difficulties at this time. If this is the case, we will discuss the fee that is affordable for you during the first session. I do not accept insurance, but will be happy to give you a receipt to file for reimbursement. Talk to your insurance company for details regarding reimbursement.
How do I get started?
Please see the forms page to print out the intake information, complete the forms and bring them to your initial session. Read the Office Policies and Privacy Policy and bring the signed copy and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
What is the first session like?
During our first session, we will discuss the concerns that bring you in, office policies, and address questions that you may have about the counseling process. You will be able to tell “your story” in a confidential and supportive environment. In addition, your goals, or what you would like to accomplish by coming to therapy are important and you will be able to share them at the initial meeting.
How long does the counseling process take?
Counseling is a process and the length of treatment varies. I routinely see clients weekly; however after a period of time, we may discuss going to bi-weekly sessions. Each client’s situation is unique, and the treatment length depends on the complexity of the problems, your goals, and the work you do between sessions.
How does marital therapy work?
I see both spouses together during the first session, then individually for one session before returning as a couple.
What about Premarital Counseling?
I enjoy working with premarital couples as they prepare for a healthy, mutually satisfying relationship. I routinely see couples for 8 sessions at a cost of $40/session. However, if your wedding date is approaching there is some flexibility- we can meet four times for 2 hour sessions, for example. In addition, I strongly recommend the PREPARE/ENRICH assessment at a cost of $35. This assessment tool provides a rich source of information and provides a couple report and handbook with exercises to strengthen your communication skills, conflict resolution, and other activities to prepare you for marriage. Just contact me for an appointment and bring the completed Premarital forms to the appointment.
All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous, unpremeditated act without benefit of experience.
